Pipe cleaners are one of the most versatile items at home if you have children. My children did a fun fine motor activity by picking up "worms". It was heart warming to see how my two-year-old especially enjoyed this activity.
I cut a few pipe cleaners into smaller pieces, then took out a disgusting mat that looked like the ground. Next my children had to pick up the worms using a clothes peg (because they were too “disgusting” to touch with bare hands.)
It took my two-year-old a while to figure out how to press and then grasp the piece of pipe cleaner but he persevered and was so chuffed when he managed. For my six-year-old I took out the timer and she had to see how many she could pick up and place inside a bowl in one minute.
