WHO AM I?

I guide concerned parents and educators with my OT tips and strategies, so that they can ensure that their children reach their full potential!

As a sensory integration trained South-African occupational therapist with over 15 years’ experience, I am grateful to say “I don’t work, I play”. Through fun child-directed playful therapeutic approaches, my passion is to help parents and teachers to understand their children better through a sensory processing lens.

I love spreading the word about sensory processing and how to enhance child development, also within the classroom.  I have given talks locally and internationally online, and have featured on the radio, as well as contributed to magazine articles.

I frequently use my DIR Floortime qualification (www.icdl.com). This is a treatment approach that compliments sensory integration therapy especially when working with the “hard to manage” child or children with developmental language, emotional and social delays (such as autism). This child-led approach focuses on connecting with a child and incorporating appropriate attachment not only between therapist and child, but also parent and child in order to move forward.

I am also trained in the Tomatis Method which is an intensive electronic auditory method that is used within the scope of OT to target insufficient general processing and concentration amongst many other benefits (www.tomatis.com).

I can proudly call myself a heart mommy and a tummy mommy. As a previous foster care mommy to newborns I am now walking the incredibly joyful journey of adoption. My forever daughter, who I have always dreamt of, is now seven years old. She is the best big sister to her three-year-old brother who came to me via my tummy. I have a soft spot for childhood trauma, parent-child connection and adoption, and how this may influence development.
